Coventry Savoy Opera Society are primarily involved with staging Gilbert and Sullivan Savoy Œuvre as our name implies. Our repertoire is quite extensive outside the Gilbert and Sullivan remit and has a diverse range of music from Nursery Rhymes, Abba, Berlin, Coward, Gershwin, Kern, Lehar, Mozart, Puccini, Rogers...   -   and the Beatles. We also sing music from popular musicals such as Les Misérables, Carosel, Show Boat, South Pacific, Cats, Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story and some light opera - The Merry Widow, Cosi fan Tutti, La Bohème, Carmen, La Traviata etc.
The Society gives concerts throughout the year at various venues around Coventry and Warwickshire. These concerts contribute funds towards our annual staged production, usually an opera, at venues in Coventry, Southam and elsewhere.
A Bit of History
Coventry Savoy was founded in 1928 by the parishioners of St. Barbara's Church in Earlsdon as 'St. Barbara's Amateur Operatic Society'. In 1936 the Society's name was changed to 'Coventry Savoy Opera Society'.
Gilbert and Sullivan, the librettist and composer of the Savoy Opera (so called after the Savoy Theatre in London that was specially built for their works to be performed) wrote thirteen opera together. Coventry Savoy has regularly performed twelve of them during its existence, the exception being The Grand Duke.

Membership Costs
There are two levels of membership, Associate and Full. As with all societies, there are certain obligations that we have to fulfil, primarily to do with insuring against potential mishap. There are essential costs that are directly dependent upon membership numbers and others that are non-attributable (those that are there whether we have 10 or 100 members). When we need to invite guests because we don't have a a full member who is comfortable in a particular rolé we need to make sure that they are covered by our insurance policy so they pay a nominal membership fee.

Currently Full Membership is £50 p.a. (Which can be paid by installment)

Associate Membership at £25 p.a. is for anyone who wishes to be kept informed of the Society's activities, have a vote at the AGM and provide help with fundraising, publicity, marketing and stage direction but not wanting to perform.
